Letters of Interest supporting grants to assist workforce development programs at colleges and universities in four states due by 3 PM, EDT, June 28, 2013
On May 23rd, the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University announced the availability of $1 million in funding from the Walmart Foundation to support competitive grant programs for veteran vocational education at community and technical colleges in California, New York, Texas and North Carolina.
This funding will seed, cultivate and provide technical assistance to a network of workforce development-focused programs at colleges that will leverage skills, training, credentialing, and other efforts to advance the employment situation of veterans and transitioning service members.
The program is part of the Walmart Foundation’s $20 million commitment to address veteran issues. In addition to this funding commitment from the Walmart Foundation, Walmart recently announced that over the next five years, it will hire 100,000 veterans who honorably left the military in the last year. Walmart is already the largest private employer of veterans in the country. The program began on Memorial Day of 2013 and includes jobs in Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations.
Letters of interest to participate are solicited from educational institutions and their partners in California, New York, North Carolina and Texas by June 28, 2013. Selected organizations submitting letters of interest, and those targeted by IVMF, will be invited to submit full applications with a submission deadline of July 15th, 2013 at 3 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
