Gracefully Global Group LLC, a woman-owned, veteran-owned niche publishing and marketing firm and Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE), a training program operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF), are partnering to help raise funds for the national program which educates and mentors women veterans through entrepreneurship to pursue self-employment as a post-service career.
The synergistic partnership comes with the launch of the publisher’s second book, the first bilingual children’s picture book to teach young children why mommies and women wear military uniforms. Titled Good Night Captain Mama (Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá in Spanish), the book provides preschool, kindergarten and early elementary grade teachers, parents and grandparents of children ages three to eight a beautiful picture book to simply explain the complexity of military service.
The book was written by award-winning author and military veteran, Graciela Tiscareño-Sato. Tiscareño-Sato is a sought-after speaker on entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership. Through live presentations and literature, she brings new positive imagery to the current national conversation about both women in the military and the Latino community.
“I loved serving this nation and wearing my flight suit for nearly a decade,” Tiscareño-Sato “I want to do my part to ensure that today’s young women are not discouraged from pursuing the life-long benefits of serving as military leaders. When our children celebrate the 4th of July and Veterans Day in school settings, images of women proudly serving in uniform, must be front and center. This positive imagery is not commonly found in classrooms, TV shows or news stories today; skewed views of both our nation’s military women, including Latinas, persist. This children’s book, the first in a planned Captain Mamá children’s book series, answers the basic questions of why we volunteer to serve.”
Inspired by a conversation between the author and her four year-old son when he first saw her in her flight suit, the 880-word picture book is beautifully illustrated by Ms. Linda Lens whose father flew for the Bolivian Air Force. Nationally released in print this 4th of July, the book will also be released on the Kindle and iPad platforms later this summer. In addition, sales of this book will support military veterans directly through V-WISE.
“Gracefully Global Group is delighted to support the important mission of V-WISE through sales of this unique children’s book, the first in a planned series starring Captain Mama’s son Marco and her family,” said Tiscareño-Sato. “I appreciate that V-WISE recognizes the leadership, integrity, focus and drive of women veterans like me. It’s imperative that women leaving the military learn how to create growth ventures with mentors at their side. That way, our lady vets can successfully pursue the path of entrepreneurship, become economic contributors and continue to function as leaders.”
“Good Night Captain Mama is a book that I would recommend to any service member who is also a parent. It provides a positive outlook on female service members and, gives children a better understanding of U.S. Air Force patches and the important role that their mothers play in today’s military,” says Tina M. Kapral, IVMF director of education programs. “We are happy to support Grace on this project, and greatly appreciate her support of V-WISE through donated proceeds from the sales of her book.”
Good Night Captain Mama is now available through Ingram and Baker and Taylor to serve school, library and retail buyers. It’s available at Amazon.com in the U.S., as well as Amazon channels in the UK, Spain and Germany. Bulk orders and signed gift books can be ordered directly from the publisher at http://www.captainmama.com/. The book will be released on the Kindle and iPad platforms this summer, and will also be available via accessible formats through Bookshare.org.
