Rep. Slaughter, Institute for Veterans and Military Families Announce Veterans Entrepreneurship and Educational Forum

Rep. Slaughter, Institute for Veterans and Military Families Announce Veterans Entrepreneurship and Educational Forum

Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter will host a Veterans Entrepreneurship and Educational Forum featuring the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University. The event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center at 161 Chestnut Street in Rochester, N.Y.

The forum will provide veterans and their families an opportunity to learn about programs designed to aid in starting a small business, further educational opportunities and connect with groups dedicated to providing resources for veterans. This is the second year in a row that Congresswoman Slaughter has hosted an event to assist returning veterans; last year’s event was held at Rochester’s Nazareth College. This year, Rep. Slaughter has also announced a $1 million federal grant for Rochester’s Veterans Outreach Center.

Participating organizations include the Office of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, The Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University, U.S. Small Business Administration, Greater Rochester SCORE, Veterans Outreach Center, NYS Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Affairs, Monroe County Veterans Service Agency, SUNY Brockport, Nazareth College, Monroe Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, St. John’s Fischer, Rochester Regional Veterans Business Council, The Housing Council, Small Business Development Center and CDS Monarch Warrior Salute.

Below is an itinerary for the event, press are invited to attend beginning at 9:45 am:

9:45am – 10:00am: Doors will open. Coffee and light breakfast provided to attendees.

10:00am: Opening Remarks by Congresswoman Slaughter.

10:20 am – 10:40 am: Remarks by Dr. Mike Haynie, Executive Director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.

10:40 am – 11:40 am: Participating organizations will give brief overview of services in five-minute speeches.

11:40am – 11:45pm: Closing remarks.

11:45am – 1:00pm: Open Format. Attendees will have remaining time to circulate the room and visit organizations’ tables for more information.

About Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter

Representing the 25th Congressional District of New York, Louise was first elected to Congress in 1986, and is now serving her 14th term in the House of Representatives. Slaughter is a strong champion for women’s issues, securing medical research grants and fighting for equal rights legislation.
