HuffPo Features Guest Blog by IVMF’s Toenniessen on Enabling The Educational Success of Student Veterans

The Huffington Post Blog features a guest post on enabling the educational success of student veterans by Ray Toenniessen, IVMF Director of External Relations. “In 2012, more than $8 billion in government support for eligible veterans was paid out to colleges and universities around the country. You might assume by this staggering number that veterans education is a huge success,” says Toenniessen, “But a tuition bill doesn’t equal a degree.” He goes on to cite the IVMF’s work with the Student Veterans of America (SVA), the Posse Foundation, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a team from Google who got together with a single goal in mind: do the work necessary to understand, and then act on the opportunity afforded to our veterans by the post-9/11 GI Bill. Through a Google Global Impact Award, the IVMF and SVA have launched a national research project to inform and empower the veterans’ community, as well as colleges and universities across America, to better support student veterans in their pursuit of education.
