As Director of Development, Bateman is charged with cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts from corporate, foundation and individual supporters who have an interest in supporting Syracuse University’s commitment to the military and veteran community through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families and the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs. He works collaboratively with the IVMF and OVMA teams as well as other university faculty and staff to advance Chancellor Syverud’s vision to make Syracuse University, “the best place for veterans and their families.”
Bateman has extensive experience in higher education fundraising and administration. In his previous role as development director at Keuka College, he was instrumental in building relationships within the college constituency to grow alumni participation and giving. Responsible for managing gifts at the annual, major and planned giving levels, Bateman implemented new programming aimed at building regional networks resulting in a renewed culture of philanthropy at the College.
A U.S. Army veteran, Bateman served four years as a Non-Commissioned Officer in a Combat Engineer Company. He deployed to Kuwait, northeast Africa, and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from State University of New York at Oswego and a master’s degree in management from Keuka College.
