Perkioniemi is responsible for managing the advising services function for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. In this role, he develops and supports a team of advisors who support students enrolled in the Onward to Opportunity (O2O) program. He achieves this through professional development sessions, one-on-one counseling, and utilizing the strengths of each advisor to enhance the entire team. Perkioniemi also reviews student cases, reports student data, and facilitates the payment of industry certification exam fees for O2O students.
Prior to joining the IVMF in April 2018 as an Academic Advisor, Perkioniemi served in the Active Duty Army for 13 years. During his time as a Soldier, he spent two years as a recruiter, deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and worked at the Army Public Affairs Center as the Training Development Manager for the entire career field.
Perkioniemi holds a B.A. in Communications from Thomas Edison State University, and an M.S. in Management from St. John Fisher College.
