Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling is Director of Special Events and Conferences at The Institute for Veterans & Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF) as well as The Vice-Chancellor’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA). In this capacity, she manages and oversees IVMF’s entrepreneurship conferences for veterans and military families: V-WISE (Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship); EBV National Alumni Conference; EBV/SU and EBV-F (Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities and Veterans’ Families). She is a cross-disciplinary practitioner of special events management and financial literacy education.
Brooks-Rolling began her career as an auditor for the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and later made a transition into special events management, obtaining a certificate in meeting and conference management from the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Travel Administration at New York University. She has assisted with coordination of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as with events at Fortune Magazine and the New York Stock Exchange.
She was appointed as a senior events coordinator with the New York City Office of the Mayor during the Giuliani administration. In that capacity, she helped plan and execute Yankees Ticker Tape parades, award ceremonies, receptions, press conferences and dinner galas. Brooks-Rolling earned a CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional), the highest designation conferred in the special events industry, from the International Special Events Society (ISES).
As a professional working in New York City—one of America’s most expensive cities to reside in—Brooks-Rolling became concerned over society’s general absence of fundamental financial education. Her passion led to her authoring a book, “How to Save Money & Organize Your Finances: Tales of an Urban Consumer” (2006).
Hence, Brooks-Rolling is also a Certified Educator in Personal Finance® as designated by Fincert.org, the Center for Financial Certifications—an independent division of The Institute for Financial Literacy (IFL). She was a 2014 finalist in IFL’s Excellence in Financial Literacy Education™ (EIFLE™) Educator of the Year category, as well as a nominee in the Consultant category of The Central New York chapter of the American Society for Training and Development.
Brooks-Rolling teaches and writes extensively in Central New York on financial literacy education, and has been quoted in “Consumer Reports” magazine. She is invited to present nationally at financial education conferences.
Ms. Brooks-Rolling is a V-WISE Advisory Board Member (Women Veterans Igniting The Spirit of Entrepreneurship), an active board member of The Syracuse Rescue Mission and The Upstate Minority Economic Alliance affiliated with CenterState CEO. She is also a member of the Syracuse Chapter of The Links, Inc. a national organization comprised of professional women.
