Richard M. Jones ’92, G’95, L’95
Richard Jones previously served as Executive Vice President, General Tax Counsel and Chief Veteran Officer for Paramount Global. As General Tax Counsel, he oversees worldwide tax planning, strategy, operations, litigation, and legislative matters for the Company. As Chief Veteran Officer, he oversees and coordinates all veteran-related initiatives for Paramount, ensuring that the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and their families are never forgotten, and that the Company is doing all that it can to promote their well-being. Prior to joining Viacom in 2005, Jones served as Vice President, Senior Tax Counsel and Assistant Treasurer for General Electric (NBCUniversal), where he was responsible for all domestic and international tax planning, structuring, M&A, operations, and controversy matters. Before joining GE in 2003, he spent more than a decade as both a certified public accountant and tax lawyer with Ernst & Young, as a leader in their media and entertainment and transaction advisory services practices. Jones also served as a law clerk for the NY State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, in the chambers of the Honorable Judge John P. Balio.
Prior to reentering civilian life, Jones was a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as a member of the 10th Mountain Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment. Jones received his law and business degrees from Syracuse University, where he graduated with honors and was admitted to the Order of the Barristers as well as a Bachelor of Science degree (summa cum laude). He is also a graduate of Boston University School of Law, where he earned a Master of Laws. He is a frequent and noted lecturer for Bloomberg and The Practicing Law Institute where he is a member of the faculty. He is admitted to practice before the Courts of NY, CT, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the AICPA, the NYSSCPA, the ABA, the NYSBA and the American Academy of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants.
