On Friday, April 8th, SyracuseServes partnered with Clear Path for Veterans and Honor the Promise to host a meeting at the Daniel and Gayle D’Aniello Building, home to the National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC). The discussion allowed local providers the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge regarding the Afghan-Americans resettling in the Syracuse area. The local resettlement agencies: Interfaith Works of Central New York and Catholic Charities of Onondaga County, shared insight on the current resettlement efforts, goods/services needed, and ways the community can get involved to offer their support. Transportation, financial assistance, food assistance, and volunteerism/sponsorship were identified as areas where additional support is needed. The meeting among our local community providers and resettlement agencies is the first step toward a collaborative community approach to addressing the crucial service needs of Afghan-Americans.

If you are interested in offering support or would like to get involved in the resettlement efforts, please contact SyracuseServes Program Manager at keparker@syr.edu, or connect with us on our website here.
