On March 20, 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the Employment Situation of Veterans for 2013, which highlights the 2013 annual employment averages for veterans and includes the August 2013 supplement data, available for the first time in this report. These data provide labor force statistics about veterans with a service-connected disability, current or past members of the National Guard or Reserve, and veterans who served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. The most recent news release as well as prior years are available here: http://www.bls.gov/news.release/vet.nr0.htm.
The Institute for Veterans and Military Families’ Annual Employment Situation of Veterans report for 2013 is forthcoming. Based on the recently released BLS report which includes Current Population Survey (CPS) annual averages, the IVMF report will detail and deconstruct the annual employment situation of veterans; present trend analysis based on the national employment situation of veterans and non-veterans; identify unique trends such as unemployment by location, education, and other distinguishing factors; and identify trends in veteran employment within industry and labor market categories.
In addition to the upcoming annual employment report, the IVMF issues monthly Employment Situation of Veterans in America reports which can be downloaded directly from the IVMF website. Other IVMF research is available at http://vets.syr.edu/research/, including research briefs on employment, education, families, and wellness, as well as a recently released report and info graphic on the employment situation of military spouses, produced in conjunction with the Military Officers Association of America.
