July 2026 Cohort Digital Program Guide

Welcome Letters

A Welcome from the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families

CEOcircle 2026 Cohort,
Welcome to Washington, D.C.

As leaders, many of the most important opportunities in our organizations (and in our lives) can often be traced back to a single conversation, a trusted relationship, or a well-timed introduction. While strategy, capital, and execution remain essential, sustainable growth is ultimately built through people.

This Fly-In’s theme is Engage: building and stewarding relationships with customers, partners, team members, investors, and communities through intentional communication, strategic influence, and authentic leadership.

Over the next two days, you’ll hear from leaders who have built influence across industries, organizations, and networks. General Stanley McChrystal will challenge us to think deeply about leadership and character. Dr. JJ Peterson will help us clarify how we communicate our value and connect with the people we serve. Throughout the Fly-In, you’ll explore how reputation, relationships, advocacy, storytelling, and strategic engagement create opportunities that cannot be captured on a balance sheet.

Just as importantly, you’ll spend time with one another.

The relationships formed within CEOcircle remain one of the program’s most enduring assets. Take advantage of the conversations between sessions, the discussions within your Call Sign groups, and the informal moments throughout the event. The insight you need may come from a speaker on stage, but it may just as easily come from the person sitting beside you.

As we enter the second half of our year together, we encourage you to approach this Fly-In with curiosity, generosity, and a willingness to engage fully with the remarkable leaders around you.

The IVMF team is here throughout your time in Washington. Please reach out if there is anything we can do to support your experience.

JPMC Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Third Fly-In Forum!

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through this experience. By now, we’ve had opportunities to get to know one another well – as veterans, business leaders, and friends. We are thrilled to see the new connections being made during our time together, driving innovation and breakthroughs with each passing month.

Many of you have already made enormous progress in taking your businesses to the next level. We are proud to play a small part in your incredible journeys.

As we enter the program’s second half, we also look ahead to the next CEOcircle cohort. Applications for the 2027 cohort closed in June, open to businesses with more than $1 million in annual revenue. We look forward to building another outstanding cohort and introducing you to them this November in New York.

Finally, we encourage you to continue engaging with the J.P. Morgan team during our time together in DC. We’re here to help answer your questions and appreciate your feedback on the program.

Leading with Character

General Stanley McChrystal, Founder & CEO, McChrystal Group
Fireside Chat moderated by Mark Elliott, Global Head of Military & Veterans Affairs, JPMorganChase

General McChrystal explores how true leadership in turbulent times hinges on character — a quality he defines as convictions multiplied by discipline. Drawing on lessons from commanding JSOC in Iraq and Afghanistan, and adapting those insights for global corporations through the Team of Teams model, he will illustrate how radical transparency, decentralized decision-making, and moral consistency build trust and resilience.

You’ll gain vivid examples — from battlefield operations to boardrooms — showing that character is revealed not in grand gestures, but in everyday choices, honesty under pressure, and shared responsibility. Whether you’re founding a startup or scaling an enterprise, you’ll leave equipped with proven strategies to cultivate adaptive, integrity-driven teams who can learn and pivot faster than the market.

General Stan McChrystal, CEO & Chairman, McChrystal Group

General Stan Mcchrystal

General (Ret.) Stanley McChrystal is the CEO and Chairman of McChrystal Group, where he advises senior executives and organizations navigating complex change, leadership challenges, and organizational transformation. He later served as Commander of U.S. and International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan, leading more than 150,000 coalition personnel from 45 nations.

Since retiring from the Army in 2010, McChrystal has focused on helping leaders build resilient, adaptable organizations and advancing work on character, citizenship, and national service. Through McChrystal Group, he has worked with Fortune 500 companies, public-sector institutions, and nonprofit organizations around the globe. This panel brings together senior corporate affairs executives from the defense/infrastructure and finance sectors to discuss how they’ve helped their organizations manage reputational risk, communicate policy and purpose, and lead through complex, high-visibility challenges.

We Need To Talk

Interactive Breakthrough lead by Cohort Member Joe Smarro, CEO, SolutionPoint+

You’re here because you served. You’re here because you built something from nothing. And some of your hardest battles have been the ones no one else can see.

This session is not about business tactics or growth strategies. It’s about the conversation most veteran entrepreneurs never have…the one with themselves.

Joe Smarro, Marine Corps veteran, former law enforcement officer, and founder of SolutionPoint+, brings lived experience and professional expertise to one of the most overlooked challenges in the veteran business/entrepreneur community: the human cost of building.

Through an interactive group experience and a practical mind management framework, Joe will challenge you to examine what you’re carrying. He will then give you a mind management tool to manage it. You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of how your mindset shapes your entrepreneurial identity, why silence is costing you more than you realize, and how to lead yourself before you can lead others.

One requirement: honesty.

Joe Smarro, CEO, SolutionPoint+

Joe Smarro

Joe Smarro is a decorated United States Marine Corps combat veteran who served in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After completing his enlistment, he joined the San Antonio Police Department in 2005 and became one of the founding members of the SAPD Mental Health Unit — a program that grew into a nationally recognized best-practices model.

Joe served on the MHU for 11 years and is one of the main subjects in the Emmy award-winning documentary Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops. In 2018, he delivered a TEDx San Antonio talk titled I See You, which has reached audiences worldwide.

An alum of the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans at Texas A&M, Joe founded SolutionPoint+ in 2017 — a national training and consulting firm dedicated to cultivating mental wellness, maximizing human capital, and promoting safety within organizations. He left law enforcement in 2020 to focus full-time on reforming behavioral health and criminal justice systems across the country.

Joe is also an Amazon bestselling author of Unarmed: De-escalation Techniques to Cultivate Courage, Compassion, and Connection. When he is not speaking, traveling, or training, he will be on a golf course.
