MAP Reach

Measure. Assess. Prioritize.

Overview

About

Project Mission: To equip veteran-serving organizations with advanced, actionable data and analytics tools to improve service delivery, elevate client experience, and ultimately reduce suicide with the veteran and military communities.

Project About: Established in spring 2024, MAP Reach is a data platform built to support Face the Fight grantees in their mission to end veteran and military suicide. The platform enables organizations to better understand, track, and respond to the evolving needs of the veterans they serve.

MAP Reach is anchored in three pillars: Measure, Assess, and Prioritize — helping providers shift from reactive to proactive care through data-informed decision making.

Who is it for?

MAP Reach is built for Veteran-Serving Organizations (VSOs) and non-profit organizations — both clinical and non-clinical — that work directly with veterans and military-connected populations.

Ideal candidates for this platform may be:

  • Mid- to large-size VSOs.
  • Seeking an opportunity for capacity building with their veteran intake process.
  • Pursuing ways to efficiently identify and pursue referrals.
  • Interested in showing the impact of their programs.

Dashboards & Data Access

Using secure Tableau Dashboards, organizations have access to:

  • Face Sheets – Individualized veteran profiles with demographics, VSNI+ scores, sDNA responses and alerts, and Agatha’s assessment of free text messages.
  • Insights Dashboards – Population trends and Social Determinants of Health by region, cohort, or demographic
  • Client & Population Outcomes – Tracks changes in key screenings pre and post-intervention (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, and risk of suicide)
  • Client Experience – Captures Net Promoter Scores (NPS), CSAT, and open feedback to improve service delivery

These dashboards support data-driven storytelling, program improvement, and funding justification.

Face The FightFunding About: The MAP Reach platform is developed by the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, in partnership with Equitable Analytics (EQA). It is funded through the Face the Fight coalition, a USAA philanthropic initiative. MAP Reach reflects the power of public-private partnership to address the urgent need for suicide prevention in the veteran and military community.

Program Overview

VSNI+

Using geospatial analytics the Veteran Social Needs Index (VSNI+) gives VSOs a clear understanding of the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) of their clients based on the neighborhood they live in. The VSNI is an easy to interpret index with 7 component scores, and 32 VSNI+ measures covering over 8 million census blocks in the U.S.

sDNA

The Social Dynamic Needs Assessment (sDNA) is a brief, personalized, mobile-accessible assessment tailored to each veteran based on age, gender, rurality, and VSNI score. Enables efficient capture of self-reported needs and reduces staff time spent conducting assessments.

Agatha

An Agentic AI assistant, supported by human oversight, that analyzes veteran messages and open-text responses to help VSOs identify and prioritize clients at increased risk of suicide or other mental health crises. Agatha categorizes messages as Low, Medium, High, or Critical and includes a synopsis of the message.

Alerts

Immediate email alerts are sent to designated staff when high or critical risk levels are detected by the Agatha — allowing for real-time intervention.
