Boots to Business: Reboot is an entrepreneurial education program offered to veterans of all eras, service members and their spouses by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
Today at the headquarters of Constant Contact, Inc., the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), The Marcus Foundation and First Data Corporation announced the launch of a new public-private partnership in support of Boots to Business: Reboot, an entrepreneurship training program.
This partnership will allow the SBA to present more than 100 entrepreneurial training workshops over the next year to veterans of all eras, service members (including members of the National Guard and Reserves) and their spouses.
“Veterans are uniquely positioned for success in entrepreneurship,” said Syracuse University Vice Chancellor and IVMF Executive Director Dr. Mike Haynie. “This innovative and unique partnership brings together the appropriate resources to ensure that entrepreneurship education and training are made available to all veterans, service members and their spouses regardless of geographic location or when they served.”
Boots to Business: Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge on the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources.
The “Introduction to Entrepreneurship” course, the first step in the program, aims to inform participants of fundamentals and techniques for evaluating the feasibility of their business concepts and is instructed by local SBA resource partners including Veteran Business Outreach Centers, Women’s Business Centers, Small Business Development Centers and SCORE.
Upon completion of the introductory course, participants will be eligible to register for “Foundations of Entrepreneurship,” an eight-week, online course led by instructors from IVMF, and offers in-depth training on the elements of an actionable business plan and techniques and tips for starting a business.
Participants who complete Boots to Business: Reboot will have the tools and knowledge needed to identify a business opportunity, draft a business plan, connect with local resources and launch their small business.
