Michael Bianchi

Mike is the Senior Director, Education and Career Training, for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF). He is a native of central New York and enlisted in the Army in 1987 as an Infantryman and was assigned to the 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell, KY. He also served as a Squad Leader, B Company 130th Infantry Regiment, IL National Guard.

He is a 1994 Distinguished Military graduate from Southern Illinois University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch. Upon graduation from the Army Aviation Flight School in Fort Rucker, AL, he was assigned as a Blackhawk Flight Platoon Leader in the 5th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment, Giebelstadt, Germany. While assigned in Germany, he was deployed to Turkey, in support of Operation Provide Comfort, and Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operation Joint Endeavor, as well as several Partnership for Peace exercises throughout Europe.

In 2000 Mike was assigned to 10th Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. While assigned to Fort Drum, he served as the Brigade Adjutant and then as a Company Commander in the 2nd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment. From 2003-2006 he served as the Recruiting and Operations Officer for Syracuse University Army ROTC, Syracuse, NY.

Upon completion of the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, he was assigned as an Embedded Training Team Chief, 203rd Corps Afghan National Army in Bermel, Afghanistan along the Pakistan Border. In 2009, he assumed duties as the Executive Officer for the US Army Syracuse Recruiting Battalion, Syracuse, NY.

In June 2011, Mike took command of the Saint Bonaventure Army ROTC program in western New York and in 2013 transitioned to Syracuse University as the Professor of Military Science until retiring in 2015 following 28 years of service.

His awards and decorations include a Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Service Medal with Bronze Star, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal with Bronze Star, Army Aviator Wings, Combat Action Badge, Airborne Wings, Air Assault Wings and the Thai Royal Military Parachutist Badge. Mike has a Master of Business Administration from Webster University, St. Louis, MO.

Mike and the former Rosita Mendiola reside in the Syracuse area with their four children. He is a member of the VFW and American Legion.
